The Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Konstruktorskoye Byuro Mashynostroyenia” (FSUE “KBM”) is a major development and production center specializing in design, manufacture, test and integration of various armament and military equipment.
FSUE “KBM” is the prime contractor of guided weapon systems in four directions:
- man-portable air defence systems;
- antitank guided missile (ATGM) systems;
- tactical missile systems;
- active protection systems.
Vast scientific, design and production potential of FSUE “KBM” is ensured by highly-qualified staff, production equipment, unique test range, test benches, simulation facilities, well-developed infrastructure. Design departments (including the test range) and production facilities enable timely implementing closed design: “design – manufacture – test”.
Design Departments are the main part of the enterprise responsible for design and development in four scientific and technical directions, development of design and technical documentation, organization of foreign economic activity, conduct of research, experiments, test of equipment and their components, warranty inspection and post-warranty service throughout the lifecycle.
Design Departments include scientific and technical subdivisions engaged into design and development in four major scientific and technical directions, design divisions, test division; department for foreign economic activities, divisions of thematic planning, technical supervision and advanced developments.
The enterprise employs a research laboratory for hardware-in-the-loop and physical simulation, bench equipment for simulation of MANPADS and ATGM flight tests, advanced end-to-end design technology, microelectronics laboratory and production facility.
FSUE “KBM” has their own test facilities including the test range with the assembly and filling production line.
Test Range. The test range territory amounts to 3,580 hectares with a firing track of 4 km line of sight. The safety zones in down range are 3 km and cross range are 1 to 2 km.
The test range is equipped with modern trajectory measurement instruments, telemetry stations, onboard parameters recording equipment. The test range has a separate power supply and communication. Firing positions and shelters for the personnel are available for safe work.
Test benches and climatic chambers provide for test of samples under conditions typical of various climatic zones and operating environments.
Assembly and Filling Production Line. Production areas are situated in two buildings and equipped with isolated production boxes for dangerous processing operations and electrical checks, hoisting devices of 2 ton capacity, in accordance with electric safety rules and fire prevention regulations. The maximum production line capacity is 400kg TNT. Both their own and lent storage areas are available.
The test range and assembly and filling production line are listed in the Public Register and certified in accordance with the safety regulations.
Cooperation in using of FSUE KBM’s test range and assembly and filling production line is invited based on contractual obligations.
Production facilities ensure manufacture of new equipment prototypes, development of manufacturing processes for their adoption and implementation, preparation, adoption and serial production of articles, manufacture of dummies and benches and special processing and test equipment. The production facilities have cutting equipment, chemical, blank and assembly production lines, shops for punching, rolling, welding, foundry, heat treatment, control and measurement laboratory and mechanical test laboratory.
There are various storages including rooms for storing of armament and military equipment, transport service for dangerous goods transportation is also available.
A number of services assist in foreign economic activity and ensure meeting the assigned objectives. They are as follows:
- Security service for protection of state secrets and confidential information;
- Quality service responsible for conformity of the enterprise’s quality assurance system to the international standard requirements;
- Economic and financial planning service for forming and allocation of funds.
Modern business centre with a guest-house provides comfortable accommodation, reception and service for foreign specialists.
At present FSUE “KBM” takes the leading positions worldwide in development of antitank and man-portable air-defence missile systems, creation of tactical ballistic missile systems and active protection systems for armored fighting vehicles. The enterprise has strong links established by decades-long cooperation with subcontractors and production plants.
